Increasing numbers of online shoppers has caused a growing problem with returns as online shoppers are often more likely to return merchandise because they were unable to try it on or interact with it before purchase. In 2015 consumers returned nearly $260.5 billion worth of merchandise, representing 8% of total retail sales. Returns are cutting into retail profits on average 10%-20%.
